Saffron is a spice derived from the flower of Crocus sativus, commonly known as the saffron crocus. Saffron also contributes a luminous yellow-orange colouring to foods. It is used for religious purposes in India, and is widely used in cooking in many ethnic cuisines.

Regular intake of Saffron in milk everyday for a period of time enables the body to build resistance against lot of common deseases such as cold and asthma.

Notes: To make a pound of saffron, over two hundred thousand stigmas from crocus sativus flowers must be harvested by hand. That's why saffron is the world's most expensive spice.
